For me running a Smallprint franchise ticks so many boxes. When I was thinking about returning to work when my son was one, I had two criteria – that I did creative work using my hands and that I could fit my work around Zach who's now three.
I work at home when he's at pre-school, when he naps in the afternoons and go out to work most weekends doing events such as fairs, country shows etc. I really enjoy the interaction with people I get at these as I spend much of my time working alone with Radio 4 as my companion. I do most of my engraving during the evening once Zach has gone to bed.
It's such a pleasure for me to make something that's so precious for people and that really touches them. I love seeing the joy on customers' faces when they collect their pieces from me. I feel particularly touched when I'm asked to make a piece based on a hand or footprint of a baby that was lost. It's actually very evoking to give somebody something that I know they will treasure.
I used to give myself a hard time for being a perfectionist but when it comes to making fingerprint jewellery, I have to say it really helps. The creative side comes easily to me but I've had to learn a lot about business, in particular sales and marketing.
I really enjoy what I do and consider myself very lucky. I love the autonomy and independence that being self-employed gives me. I work a lot harder than I had anticipated, but I love it so I am not complaining!

I absolutely love the product... seeing someone's face when you hand them their treasured item is the best feeling ever. You get to meet some great people and have lots of fun and I love being my own boss. I have enjoyed it so much I have recommended the opportunity to two of my friends both of whom are now part of the Smallprint family and loving it.Nikki Godden - Franchisee
I fell in love with Smallprint as a product the first time I saw it. When I found out there was an opportunity to buy a Franchise and run my own Smallprint business I jumped at the chance. Having young children it was my dream job and a fantastic lifestyle business to fit in around my family life. Seven years on and I still love the products and my business.Nicola Baldwin-Biggs - Franchisee
