When Jemma was made redundant from her telesales job for a brewery, she decided that with two children (the youngest just a baby) she didn’t want to go back to a 9 to 5 job. She had always been artistic, and having already tried out a casting kit on her newborn baby, she knew that making keepsakes was what she wanted to do.
After searching for some courses, Jemma came across Victoria at The Keepsake Co. She was able to take her baby girl along with her, and says that the Keepsake Castings and then the Keepsake Jewellery courses were ‘fantastic, with a very warm welcome and lots of hands-on training’. Jemma came away feeling very positive and, with plenty of guidance and support, she launched Peek a Boo Castings.
Jemma now runs her Bristol based business offering 3D Castings, Raised Impressions and Personalised Silver Jewellery, around her two young children.
She says: "I take bookings to work around my children. I’m able to work from home and do the hours I want, so I have the freedom to do what I want when I want and take time out as and when I need it."
Of course, it’s not an easy thing to run a business and Jemma admits that there are constant challenges, such as managing her time around the children’s needs and being disciplined enough to focus on working at home without getting distracted by household chores. She says that being part of the Keepsake Co has made the whole process of starting a business so much simpler, because she can always get advice and support about anything she’s struggling with, from ladies who have been where she is and know how to succeed.
Jemma is also going to be venturing into pet castings soon, and says that she is very excited about the future of her business and where it’s going to take her.
