From Start-Up to Success: Emma Cole’s Franchisee Journey

UK Growth Coach is a business coach franchise who includes a network of coaches, providing business advisory and development services to the owners of SME companies across the UK.

They have a unique model and framework based on years of coaching experience with a vast array of industries.

UK Growth Coach franchisees have worked with businesses at all different stages of development.

Here, Emma Cole discusses her experience as a UK Growth Coach franchisee and how she has helped many businesses thrive:

What motivated you to choose the UK Growth Coach?

“I already knew the franchise and directly experienced the effectiveness of their coaching from my previous business, which they helped me grow from half a million to just over £1.5 million pounds. I knew how much impact their experience could bring and I wanted to learn from them to be able to do the same for other business owners as well.”

What kind of training did you receive from UK Growth Coach when you first started?

“They gave me a fantastic initial eight-day training course based in Sussex, during that we covered a lot of different things, including key business concept and the unique models that UK Growth Coach use. As well as skills and resources to market and be able to sell to, and coach my own clients.”

What ongoing support and training have you had since starting?

“Every four weeks I have a personal coaching session with one of the guys from headquarters. Every quarter we also have a direct meeting with the franchisors, where I receive updates on developments, things that are going on, training and the latest tools and approaches that we’ll be using.

And once a year, we get together and have a full day which will help me plan for the year ahead.”

How has your relationship with your franchisor evolved over time?

“It has developed into a really strong and trusted partnership, based on building relationships and rapport. I knew for sure they wanted to see me succeed and really take me to that greater level, and that they would support me with whatever I needed to get there.”

What challenges have you faced in operating your franchise and how did you overcome them?

“I had to work out how to use the tools they gave me, and to find my own style, and I think that’s something every coach finds out when they first start as it’s important to do.

The core UK Growth Coach models and coaching resources are great and they really help me, and once I’d tried them a few times I found an approach that really works for me and found that I was cooking on gas as a result!”

Has your franchisor been supportive when you needed them to be?

“Absolutely yeah, whenever I’ve needed anything they’ve always been really easy to reach, really responsive and really helpful.

I particularly like that they listen to my ideas and feedback, and they involve me in the discussion about the whole direction the franchise is actually taking.”

Can you describe the financial performance of your franchise since you started?

“When I first started, first year went quite well, then we decided to relocate from East Sussex to Cornwall – quite a challenge. It was a big change and it actually meant that I got to relaunch so I launched twice, and launched into a completely new and unfamiliar location.

So unsurprisingly, as a result, it took me a little bit longer to reach my performance that I intended. But now I’m settled into the area I have a really good level of clients and income and more importantly profit from my business.”
