FRANCHISEE CASE STUDY – CLAIRE PARKINSON

What did you do before Kidslingo?

In my early career, I worked in banking and finance. As my first child started school I found fitting work around school hours difficult, and so I had a change of direction and re-trained to work as a teaching assistant in primary schools. It was seeing the children’s reaction to French lessons delivered in school by a visiting French teacher which inspired me to look into opportunities to teach languages to little ones myself. I decided to make use of my degree in French and Linguistics and took the plunge to buy my own franchise with Kidslingo.

Kidslingo - Claire ParkinsonWhy did you choose Kidslingo over other franchises?

I was initially drawn to Kidslingo over other language franchises as I love the branding and images used. I was also keen to work with a range of ages and liked the fact that Kidslingo provided plans and materials for school-age children as well as pre-schoolers. Once I had spoken to Anna, the founder and CEO, my mind was made up. It was obvious that Kidslingo is unique, offering incredible support to its franchisees and Anna’s friendly approach played a big part in my decision. I also felt that the cost of the franchise was extremely good value for money, with 3 different payment options available making it affordable to all.

How do you feel about your decision?

This has been, without a doubt, the best career decision I have ever made. I will never again wake up not wanting to go to work! Every day is different, I have already met so many people and made so many friends along the way, and I love seeing the children enjoying themselves whilst learning a language. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had!

What difference has choosing this career path made to your life?

I feel fulfilled and have finally found my calling – working as a Kidslingo franchisee also means that I can fit my work around my two daughters and I am able to drive them to and from school each day. We get to spend quality time as a family during holidays. The job has also had a positive impact on my younger daughter, who attends my classes every week and is really getting a lot from the sessions.

What do you think of the plans, resources & materials provided?

Kidslingo provide a very extensive range of plans, organised into topics, for each age range. The plans are packed with fun activities and are really easy to deliver to the children, who absolutely love them. We have a huge range of music files too, with very catchy songs which make learning a language lots of fun. I was also provided with a fabulous kit bag packed with excellent quality puppets, toys, coloured scarves, musical instruments, a parachute and much more. As I am not very technically minded, I loved the fact that I got a ready-to-go web page, Facebook page and Twitter page too, which has made things so much easier!

What do you think about the support & help available?

One of the things I love most about Kidslingo is the wonderful support all the franchisees have. Anna, the founder and CEO, is always on hand to help us and give advice, and nothing seems to be too much trouble for her. We also have a brilliant ‘secret’ Facebook group which all the franchisees use, so we are able to support each other and share ideas etc. It is the best of both worlds, I am my own boss running my own business, but also feel very much part of a team and have ‘colleagues’ on hand at all times to answer any questions I may have. We also get together once a year for a training day, which was just brilliant this year!

Does it meet your expectation in terms of earnings & opportunities to grow your business?

Yes, it meets and exceeds my expectations. I was surprised at how quickly my business began to grow. There are so many different opportunities with the franchise, from working with nurseries and schools, to running your own classes in venues, or running groups for home-school children. After only 10 months of running my franchise, I am now considering the option of employing a sub-contractor to meet the demand for classes!

What would you say to others considering joining Kidslingo?

Go for it! It will be the best career decision you will ever make!
