As a teenager Jenna McMullen had been a student of Angela Wilson and went on to work for Angela as a swimming instructor and pool co-ordinator; as such she had first-hand experience of the swim school.
Following discussions with Angela, Jenna became one of the first franchisees and bought her first franchise area in January 2014, in Sevenoaks, Kent. She was only 21 but saw the opportunities that being a franchisee offered - in addition to earning a good income she could work flexible hours that suited a new phase in her life following the birth of her first child, Archie. Jenna understands the importance of children learning to swim properly with correct breathing and stroke technique and is a firm believer in the Angela’s Swim School method of teaching.
Within a year Jenna had purchased a second franchise in nearby Maidstone. As her first franchise had been bought as a going concern she was keen to develop a brand new area by herself and additionally she was keen to increase her income.
Jenna says her biggest learning was realising how much marketing needed to be done behind the scenes and she believes her key to success has been her rigorous approach to instructor training. Jenna makes sure that all her instructors are fully trained in the Angela’s Swim School method before they take their own classes and she ensures they always follow the teaching plans correctly, teaching with the method Angela has perfected over the years.
Jenna would advise new franchisees that as pool space is a premium they should always maximise the available pool time by taking any extra hours available:
"You don’t want to miss out on the opportunity".
Jenna now has 7 pools and 500 clients, who are taught by herself and a team of 20 instructors. She plans to continue growing her existing franchises by seeking out more pools, but is also planning on buying a third franchise area in the future.

Darryl Burroughs bought an Angela's Swim School franchise in East Sussex and he opened his first business in January 2016.
I started running my franchise in November 2014 and from day one there was a lot of support from Angela's Swim School head office. Any time I need help, advice or support I know it is there.
Angela's Swim School is a company that empowers a franchisee as a business person.
I enjoy owning my own business and also being part of a bigger picture. We are part of an ever growing network and benefit from the support that Angela's Swim School gives us.
The franchise is owned by a former Team GB swimmer
