Hannah and Laura tell us more about what led them to join the Ambience team and how this is helping them to achieve their personal goals.
"Both of us were working the standard 9-5, with a lot of time spent commuting! Sometimes our jobs required us to spend nights away from home. This started us thinking about putting all of our energy into our own business rather than someone else’s.
The time, research and cash investment needed to start up a new business would have meant we would have to keep our full time jobs as well as putting our energy in to a new business. Joining a network like Ambience gave us the fast track to work with people who have a tried and tested system. This now means we have the flexibility to be our own bosses with back of house support and having a team of people to rest on should we need that support.
We are both interested in décor, styling and interior design and we thought that our skill and ability would work well within wedding venue styling. The wedding industry is always a happy one so it is a nice one to be part of. As sisters we have the same sense of style so we knew we would always agree on what would look best for a client. Our plan is always to work together, however if something comes up we know we have each other we can lean on and trust.
Like many other people looking into self employment, one of our main concerns was taking that first step of being your own boss and as much as the Ambience Venue Styling Head Office team helped and advised, it is ultimately down to you if you want to make that change. The Ambience Head Office team arranged for us to speak to other sylists which allowed us to hear that they had the same concerns as we had at the time, which was comforting to hear!
Prior to the initial contact with Ambience Venue Styling we did a lot of research ourselves. When we felt comfortable that joining an already established brand was was the right route we wanted to take, we set up a meeting with the Head Office Team in August 2016. We then went away to look at figures and to speak to our family and made the decision in October to purchase the Hertfordshire territory.
We are still in the very early stages of building our business. At the moment, being part of the Ambience Team has given us the complete flexibility to manage our own diary, which in return allows us to do school runs and spend more time with the family. Another early achievement is no longer battling with trains and traffic! We now work around our lifestyle and family commitments.
Some may ask how the sister dream team is working out for us both and we have had no problems so far so that is a bonus!
As for the future of Ambience Hertfordshire, our focus will be on continuing to build relationships with venues, maintaining and growing our product bank in order to offer exciting décor for clients and to stay on top of trends.
We are also finding AMBA our virtual assistant (internal system) really easy to use and it allows you to have everything in one place. Especially when working as a duo you can pick-up where the other one has left off. There are also banks of useful information and guidelines you can always refer to which is handy!
Our advice as a sister team in business to another sister team out there looking to go into business would be, as much as you are sisters and you get along you need to be 100% sure you can work together as business partners. We are lucky that we know when we have our working hats on as supposed to sister hats!"

Donna Wojtas is the proud owner of Ambience Venue Styling Bradford and Halifax. Donna joined Ambience as a stylist in October 2014.
