Clare from Cambridgeshire tells us why she chose Kidslingo for her Spanish business.

What in particular attracted you to Kidslingo?

With two young children and a Spanish-speaking husband, I have a strong interest in language development in infants. I love the fact that the Spanishtastic programme is based around fun, but that there is a theory behind it which gives the classes credibility and added value for those attending. The learning potential is fantastic!

Kidslingo - ClareWhat do you enjoy most about running your business?

The fact that no two days are the same! The work is really flexible so I can fit it around spending time with my children....which was the main reason for doing this type of thing in the first place!

What initial training and support did/do you receive from Head Office?

There was a thorough & structured training programme where we observed live classes and learnt about the operational side of running a business, marketing techniques, the financials and delivering the actual sessions too. The programme gave me the confidence I needed to be able to run effective and enjoyable classes. With no background in teaching this was the bit I was the most nervous about!! Head Office is also there for support - being able to refer to their knowledge and expertise is a great reassurance.

What challenges have you faced so far?

The key challenge for me was the sales aspect – approaching schools, nurseries, childminders to sell the classes & me! I have worked hard at this aspect by practising with friends & family as well as talking it all through with Head Office. Having overcome my initial nerves, secured customers and received positive feedback about the classes, I am now more confident in my approach. It all gets easier with practise. As every day is so varied you really don’t know what challenges will be thrown at you – so you have to be prepared for anything!

What might a typical working day involve?

If there is ever a typical day, it could be running a nursery class first thing, followed by one of our multi-sensory baby classes in a children’s centre. Then grab a quick lunch, check emails and off again in the afternoon for a preschool class in a local village hall, another nursery class & then an after school club. Once the kids are fed, clean & asleep, I check emails again, respond to enquiries about classes or free tasters and market the classes through social media.

What advice would you give to someone considering buying a franchise?

Don’t underestimate how much time and effort you will need to get the business up and running. Even though a franchise is an established business it is likely to be a new business in your area and so a considerable amount of marketing will be needed. This may also involve spending on local advertisements but don’t rush into anything - it is quite surprising how effective free marketing can be.
