Lucy Norfolk tells us about herself and running her MAD Academy business in Camberley.:

What is your favourite MAD Song or Activity and why?

I played baby musical bumps recently and thought it was one of the most fun things I have seen in ages!! Their faces were a picture! All my classes love playing with scarves and using our imaginations with them. I teach a variety of classes; Children's Centres, Nurseries, Special Needs, and my public classes and each are very different so I get to experience my favourite activities in many different ways.

MAD Academy - CamberleyWhat was your life pre-MAD? (If you can remember that far back?)

Many things. I trained as an actor for 5 years and worked professionally for a few years, Butlins Redcoat, Retail Manager, Call Centre Worker, Trainer, and Sales Manager, and more recently I taught ages 4-7 at Stagecoach for 3 years.

What do you do in your spare time?

Theatre, singing, and being a Mummy. We have a music room at home and my husband plays lots of instruments so we jam every now and again. We have a few gigs lined up so looking forward to singing again. Love being Mummy (most of the time!) and watching my children learn and develop, they are my greatest achievement by far.

What's the most disastrous thing to happen while doing MAD?

My most disastrous moment was getting to a venue to run a CC class and the door was locked. I couldn't get hold of the CC and no one was around. All of the families were arriving and waiting to see what to do. So I just camped out on the grass with my IPod and lots of props and instruments and ran the class on the grass in the sunshine!!

Do you have any children?

Yes, Rosie is 10, and Joe is 8. I also have 2 Step-children, James is 7, and Oliver's 6.

What was the last book you read?

It was a chick lit novel, a holiday book, can't remember the name! All Mills and Boon and trashy but I couldn't put it down! All my books go straight in the car boot pile once I've read them!

If you could have dinner with anyone famous, alive or dead, who would it be?

Elvis (young version!) I could gaze at him, listen to him sing to me, hear all his stories about films, etc, and visit Graceland!

Where's your favourite holiday destination and why?

Ireland. I went there for my honeymoon last October and completely fell in love with it! It's the most beautiful place, with a surprise round every corner! We're going back for a wedding this Summer and can't wait. I loved the traditions and folklore and of course the seafood and Guinness!

Do you have any words of wisdom for other franchisees?

Don't expect too much too soon, and don't take it too personally when they don't reply or turn up! I've learnt to relax a lot more about it and when you have a few let you down, the next day you might get a call from others wanting classes just as quickly. Keep a flexible and friendly relationship with all of your clients as they are what gets you the next booking!

What Our Franchisees Say

I think that the best thing about being part of the MAD Academy team, rather than running an independent business, is the website, the MAD material and regular the training.
