A focussed group of toddlersCompany history

Musical Minis is a registered trade mark and has been operating since 1990 in North West London. It was established so that pre-school children (from as young as six months) could enjoy and participate in music at an early stage in their development.

Its format was created by Karen Sherr and Patricia Elson. Karen, who has an Honours Degree in Psychology, was a play specialist at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. Patricia is a nursery school Head Teacher with over twenty years experience. The first franchise was established in 1997.

Profile of franchisee sought

Musical Minis is looking for outgoing, lively people with good organisational skills, preferably, but not essentially, with experience of working with young children. Whilst it may help, you do not need to have a good singing voice nor do you have to be able to play a musical instrument.

What a franchisee would do

  • Find venues
  • Find staff
  • Market the classes
  • Attend to administration
  • Handle financial and legal requirements
  • Liaising with Head Office
  • Attending classes as leader or assistant (non-compulsory).

Results, experiences and performance of existing franchisees

In view of the flexible approach we take, franchisees enjoy A happy Musical Minis Franchise Classvarying results. We have some franchisees running only a few sessions each week whilst others employ staff and run up to 20 sessions a week. The standard classes are often supplemented by contract work with Children Centres, Nursery Schools and parties.

For example, Jo from South Wales manages 4 classes and says “Musical Minis has given me the flexibility to have a source of income yet still allows me to be a full time Mum.” If you want to do more sessions you can.

Tina from South East Essex employs four people and runs 20 classes per week. Tina says “Musical Minis has changed my life! It is wonderful to be involved in such a fun and rewarding business. You do need to be dedicated and work hard, but running the business has already enabled me to take the children to Disneyworld.”
