South Warwickshire businesses are joining forces in an attempt to ride out the current economic crisis. Firms in the town have met to hold networking sessions to pass on tips and advice and practical help to each other.
The Stour United Business Group, a networking and business support group, was the meeting point for two companies who have managed to help increase each others turnover.
Tina Cook who has recently opened 'Quills', a top quality stationery shop in the market town of Shipston-on-Stour, decided to place her HR consultancy business above the shop but the age of the building and the telecommunications set up in the building was a real concern. "It wasn't as straightforward as I had expected because of the state of the phone wiring, it was a real mess and we didn't think we'd ever be able to get it working."
But thanks to a chance meeting at the town's business networking group another local business had all the answers. James Pink from 'Pinkconnect', the telecommunications franchise which provides solutions and business communications saw the situation as a challenge.
"It made absolute sense to run two businesses from the same location but Tina did have a job on her hands." Work commenced and the years of spaghetti wiring was stripped away to leave space to set up a complete business broadband internet and telephone service for the two separate businesses."
Pink Connect also introduced her to a web design company, which Tina chose for her websites.
Tina says "My consultancy business is called HR Solutions because we work with firms to organise change management and that's just what happened here! The great thing about networking with your own local businesses is that you can find just what you need, on your own doorstep and more importantly you can talk to their other customers to see how they really work and whether they're any good!"
James Pink thinks local networking is vital to get the right people for the job. Being able to hear first hand guarantees the right people to do the job and completely eliminates the risk of choosing a new supplier. He says "Pinkconnect realises it is a tough economic climate and we are constantly downwardly revising our prices to assist customers with their cash flow. Networking between firms helped both Tina and I to bring new high quality business into our companies."
Tina and James' experience shows the great value of networking and buying local in supporting successful business growth.
