Helping hand for youth

Steve Claridge still strives to help the next generation. The former Premier League footballer turned pundit is an ambassador for Rotherham-based Professional Trustworthy Committed (PTC) Sports which encourages youngsters to exercise more.

PTC Sports also provides young people with the support to become coaches or set up their own businesses if they fail to make professional players. Speaking at a PTC Sports event in Sheffi eld, Claridge said: “Buying a franchise can be a life-changing experience. Many entrepreneurs have exactly what it takes to run a successful business but don’t have what it takes to get their business up and running. This is something that appeals to me as I was not overly enamoured with school. Not everybody has had the same upbringing. There are a lot of people out there who don’t know the difference between eating the right and wrong foods. I was able to learn in the middle of my career.

“You are not going to change everyone but if you can change one person’s life for the better then it’s all worth it. Hopefully I can encourage people to go out into the community and help them understand the benefi ts of exercise and eating right.” PTC have recently been working at Greenhill Primary School on cheerleading and Anston Park Infants on unihoc.

Craig Parry, the founder of PTC Sports, is grateful to have Claridge’s backing. Parry said: “Steve is really passionate about what we are trying to do and it is great having someone of his profi le supporting us. We are delighted Steve is involved and we have great plans for the future to really benefi t the children and schools of Sheffield.”
