FRANCHISEE OF THE YEAR – And youngest in the network

“There is so much variety in this franchise, which is what I enjoy the most,” - Jemma Corbett, Medics on the Move Franchisee

Jemma Corbett is Medics on the Move’s “Franchisee of the Year” and, at 26 years old, she is the youngest person in the franchise’s 22-strong network.

She was awarded the accolade for being the best ambassador for the brand and for being the best overall performer in the network, both great achievements for someone who became a franchisee less than two years earlier.

The criteria for the award included relationship building, customer satisfaction, brand and business promotion, referrals for others in the network, accurate reporting and accountancy, and courtesy.

Jemma first came to Bristol to study Valuation and Estate Management at the University of West England, with the intention of becoming a surveyor in London. She decided after a while that this was not where she wanted to be and found a job with a High Street estate agent. From there she joined Carole Stubbs and Vickie Knighton, founders of Bristol-based Medics on the Move, initially as an employee.

“I really enjoyed the work and the variety of the franchise,” Jemma said. “I recognised I am a perfectionist and I especially liked the efficient way the franchise was run. I felt confident that I could be a successful franchisee,” Jemma said.

In September 2006 Jemma opened her own office and two months later had recruited an employee to help, quickly followed by another.

“There is so much variety in this franchise, which is what I enjoy the most,” Jemma explained. “I love it when a deal comes together. One high was when we did a rental search that enabled two families to swap lives for a year, one moving to Bristol and the other to Australia. We were even negotiating toys for the children! Both families were ecstatic,” Jemma continued.

Jemma appreciates the flexibility of the franchise, particularly as many clients prefer to meet her outside normal office hours. She also values the unstinting support from her franchisor, as well as contact with other franchisees. She says: “Running a business can be daunting but it helps to be able to ring other franchisees. It’s like having a ready-made business network.”
