Leap of faith pays off for Collette and Ryan

"We’re now in our fourth month and already have the reassurance of a regular monthly turnover from a nucleus of loyal customers" - Collette, Trophy Pet Foods Franchisee

"Hi, we’re Collette & Ryan with Rufus & Lucy our dogs and we make up Trophy Pet Foods Cardiff. We joined Trophy in May this year and started our first month trading in June, from there we have never once looked back and regretted our decision.

It was a really big leap for us, and we understand all the thoughts that go through your head when you may be contemplating giving up job security for job satisfaction. I was a Store General Manager and my family looked upon fearfully at the benefits and pay scale I was considering walking away from to start from scratch with no guarantees…oh, and we were planning our wedding for the same year!

We have never once doubted the potential income from Trophy, it’s all there for the making & taking if you are prepared to get out there and make it happen and - believe us - it never feels like hard work when you’re your own boss. We’re now in our fourth month and already have the reassurance of a regular monthly turnover from a nucleus of loyal customers. Our task each month is to make sure we’re on the button for them and bring in more like them with the skills we’ve already developed. It’s a simple recipe - you have to be chatty & non-threatening, a great listener and deliver on the things you say. It’s totally not rocket science!

We’re already amazed by the presence we have in the doggy community, and the contacts we’re making. The lifestyle balance is great, I’ve worked long weeks, but with the flexibility to have a quiet week in return. You can really make it what you want. We don’t have children but the difference in our dog from having me around is tremendous, his insecurities & neurosis have gone, instead we have a happy, balanced dog. Surely, this must translate to families too?

Ryan is still stuck in retail, working crazy hours but he is counting down the days for the business to be in a position for him to join too. We seriously expect this to be with 18 months from start up. If you are considering Trophy you are probably full of questions, apprehension and a little bit of excitement. Everyone’s circumstances are different, but who really wants “what if’s…?”.

We dissected this business piece by piece, we wrote business & financial plans till the cows came home, and the one thing that always reassured us was the complete honesty, right down to the franchise information pack. No missing Profit & Loss accounts, no speculation, no hidden costs just plain ‘this is what you give, this is what you get’, and we feel you get a lot for your money!

This level of support and honesty continues all the way through, it’s your own business but you never feel alone or at a loss. I know that I’ve talked a lot here but I know when we were looking we wanted to hear it all.

Trophy is a true lifestyle choice. Since we started the bags under my eyes have gone, my skin is better, my sky-high stress levels have completely mellowed and my health is the best it’s been. We love our business; we feel secure for our home and look forward to the future. What more could we ask for (?) Anyway, if you want to either of us rave on some more please feel free to call: 02920 561089"
