ASK THE EXPERTS - Always put safety and professionalism first

Photography for Little People Franchise Director of photography Melanie Armstrong on why safety and professionalism is so important for newborn photography.

They are the golden moments every family treasures – the arrival home of a new baby, the antics of toddlers, even the time when a pregnancy becomes apparent. And if not recorded at the time those moments are gone forever. Photography for Little People is the UK’s family fine art mobile portrait studio franchise, founded in 2008 by mother and daughter team Jan Massey and Melanie Armstrong. It specialises in taking impressions of childrens hands and feet, as well as maternity, newborn and family photography; the youngest baby to have had their impressions taken was just 6 hours old. Photography for Little People franchisees have the great privilege of working with new families and capturing those special moments.

"Professionalism must always come first and we always remember how important your family is to you. But another aspect of our work is always to put safety first. Everyone in our organisation is police checked and very well trained as to how to handle the new babies. Guidance is always given to the new parents on how to prepare for a session. It is important that your baby is kept comfortable and warm throughout the session, and our photoshoots always go at your baby’s pace. Little one will need to be settled before we start and if feeding is needed throughout the shoot that is fine. We always have plenty of props for you to choose from, but you may have special items that you would like to incorporate in the images as well. We guarantee that you will enjoy your shoot with us and be delighted by the outstanding quality of the images we produce. We at Photography for Little People also produce a range of beautiful frames for you to choose from and of course our impression pieces are unique to us."

Melanie and Jan made the decision to franchise the business and now have franchisees throughout the UK as well as Hong Kong and Singapore. The company says its secret has been to create an experienced, child friendly team which makes sure clients have a memorable, fun experience in their own homes.

Melanie says:
"We excel at photographing bumps and newborns, little ones and toddlers, as well as family groups, including pets."

Simona, who is a franchisee working in London, graduated in marketing, administration and advertising. She never wanted to work 9-5 for anybody else:
"I wanted to do something with meaning, something with a purpose to me, most importantly something I loved and would enjoy doing day to day".

Simona had always planned to run her own business, but thought she would probably have to spend 5 or 10 years working for someone else before she had the chance to go it alone:
"I started looking online for franchises and when I found Photography for Little People I instantly fell in love with it.  I didn’t look for anything else, it just felt right for me and it was the best decision I have ever made".
