Marion Clemens Runs Her Trophy Franchise In Wessex

"I was a driving instructor for 6 years before taking on my Trophy franchise. I had three illnesses due to the stress of my previous vocation, so I decided it was time for a major change. I wanted a way of bringing my passion for animals into my work life and a pet food franchise looked ideal. I researched the market and when I found Trophy it ticked all the boxes.  The ethical accreditation, lots of herbs and fruits in the composition, generous franchise area with huge growth potential and quality British food at very cost effective prices, makes it easy to gain new customers.

Trophy Pet Foods Franchise - Marion Clemens
The training I received at Trophy was excellent. I have been given the tools and confidence to seek new customers and explain about the varieties of food we have; and how we can help with any dog and cat nutritional problems. Pet owners are always so kind to me and that is due to our “pet first” approach. My training showed me how to recruit new pet owners without being pushy or ‘salesperson’ like. I could not do it if there were hard sales involved, I am not that type, but I can honestly say the way I was taught via the Trophy training course, leaves me buzzing.

I purchased an existing franchise in 2016 from a franchisee who was wanting to retire.   The area had a total of 120 buying customers. With no previous experience of sales and on my own I increased that to two hundred buying, satisfied customers. My husband joined me in the business September 2020 and our customer base is now fast approaching three hundred.

However, hard work comes into it. On my own, there were days when I started loading the van at 8am, deliveries until 5pm then back into the office after dinner to put in the order, contact customers, work on my Facebook page or any manner of things, to keep the ball rolling!  I cannot imagine that any successful business did not start with hard work! Every time my husband and I are alone we are producing new ideas, new plans, and improvements, but we are thoroughly enjoying the road to our new life. All the hard work is for us. All the outdoor events, networking and social media promotions are for us! After a show we are BUZZING, meeting new people, and chatting about their pets is a great pastime, not to mention a wonderful job.  Hard work pays off I am now mainly in the admin and Nutritional advice roll. Hours vary depending on if I want to do social media or how many new enquiries I must reply to.  My husband works 2.5 days doing deliveries.

We recently bought a Motor Home. That means I can drive to a local beauty spot with the dogs. Take them for a walk, sometimes chatting to prospective customers. I often wear my Trophy pet foods Jacket. That starts conversations, but the great thing is, if I am in a non-talkative mood, just want to walk the dogs (we all get those times) I will wear a non-branded coat and just relax. Then back to the van for a coffee. With Wi-Fi set up I start work with a wonderful view from the office.
